Matguard Sponsors Beat the Streets Mayor’s Cup Tournament

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 11, 2009

Manhattan, NY – Beat the Streets, a wrestling program designed to expand and develop wrestling in the New York City Metropolitan area from the youth through the Olympic level, held their annual Mayors Cup Tournament Sunday Jan. 25 at Harry S. Truman High School. Matguard USA, producers of antibacterial products for athletes, proudly supported their cause through sponsorship of the event.

Almost 250 wrestlers representing 49 public, Catholic and independent high schools in New York City celebrated the leading high school wrestling tournament held by Beat the Streets. Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Novice athletes competed in strong, close matches to prove what this revolutionary program has taught them.

The event preceded the MATGUARD-sponsored Ohio State vs. Hofstra wrestling match where MATGUARD provided samples to 4500 spectators. The two prestigious wrestling programs had a competitive match, ultimately Ohio state won.

The important message presented by the event and the Beat the Streets organization parallel Matguard’s goal for the wrestling community. “Promoting a safe athletic environment, as well as providing lifelong skills and opportunities for children in the world of wrestling is what Matguard and the Beat the Streets organization hope to achieve together,” said Tom Bunge, CEO of Matguard USA.

Matguard’s patented 70 percent isopropanol formula is FDA and EPA approved to kill all types of skin disease that can spread throughout athletes, especially those involved in these types of programs. By using the Matguard body wipes, children in the Beat the Streets Wrestling Program can continue to build both wrestling and life skills without being impacted by skin disease.

“It is the ultimate goal of Matguard USA for all athletes involved in contact sports to use this product so the safest form of athleticism can be performed by all,” said Bunge. “We are proud to be part of a cause that supports a clean, safe environment for all athletes to enjoy.”
